Grows Ever Stronger

Now, nearly twenty-five long years
after her exile of choice,
she's found her way home.
Thoughtfully, she sits
in the room she'd known so long ago,
looking out her window
seeing nothing.

The city is so different now,
all shiny & new.
She re-unites with family, with old friends --
her mind shrouded in the past.
She wonders if she can find her happiness now,
when so many complications cloud her mind,
her heart reels at what might be.

Can she forgive the foolishness, the betrayal --
will she see he's turned mistakes once made
to lessons now learned?
The nights she lay sleepless
since she'd become aware of his calls,
days torn in distraction --
heart & mind at odds...she just doesn't know.

The thing she cannot know --
something she may never even guess --
is the genuine quality of his heart.
Her Galapagos is his good, kind darkness --
a place of continued separateness.
Still, she hesitates,
as the stagnation of life grows ever stronger.

Spread & Waiting

Another day passes,
as I await your words.
We grow ever older,
& my heart is forever yours.

Just as easily as you'd chosen the Galapagos
as your destination,
a return trip can be quickly arranged
with the long desired message, frustrated & desiring.

Why remain in desolation,
why continue to hesitate?
All possibility lay before you,
no more doubt, no more regret.

Can the complications of time & distance
really separate -- really restrain,
when the heart's desire
lay open & bleeding, arms spread & waiting?

The Beauty

A photo found & enlarged
revealing a past of hard-won experience;
a truth revealed of trials come & gone.
Does this past not revel mine
diminished returns of separate paths;
the scars of mistakes we both have made?

What you must think of me --
blind to the ravages nature wrought;
un-accepting of what must be by surfaces.
I tell you now & on,
today & tomorrow will not change my heart;
there is nothing which can take the beauty I see in you....
